The algae-biodiesel negative carbon footprint is deceptive. It assumes that the algae tanks are near a coal plant and are used to capture the carbon dioxide the plant produces. This is why the number is so negative. However, when you burn the diesel produced this way, the captured carbon goes straight back into the atmosphere as carbon dioxide.
